Captain. Navigator of the ship. Highly talented woman with a penchant for overworking herself. Grace is an orphan and comes from a military family. She has lost her parents to the various deployments that the RRM has had to Earth. She holds a particular hatred towards Terrans. Grace is an avid worshipper of the Church of the Red Dawn; she had applied, previously, to be one of the sisters, but failed their examination and had to drop out of the convent, to her great disappointment. She has never gotten over this failure and believes it to be a fatal flaw of hers, the military being her secondary occupation of choice as it provides a safety net to her family. Grace and Alderic often have fights over religion; she finds his lack of faith troublesome and cowardly. While she is a good and reliable friend, she and Alderic aren't personally close.
Grace Lyonne Ng
Major. Operations officer. Vesper comes from a wealthy family, similar to Alderic's, who is also involved in the half-metals industry. He views Alderic as a rival and intends to take over the ship's command in the near future. He and Alderic are not close, but due to the circumstances of their birth, he sympathizes for him more often than not. Vesper is loud, stubborn, and an incurable patriot. He is often accused of passing military secrets to his parents in order to keep their business ahead of their competitors; this has never been proven in a civilian court, and his case with the military court is pending. While he is a reliable officer, Vesper can be demanding and harsh, and he is often not well-liked. He has a particular bias against non-commissioned officers and tends to treat them differently compared to others.
VESPER LEE TRITON (CALLSIGN: KING)
DE ATRA CORPS
Since DAC does not answer to the military, a representative of DAC needs to be present in the premises in order to coordinate logistics and related missions with the conventional military every time they deploy in Earth. Martillet is the point of contact in the Hesperides for the two factions; he is a representative for the Church of the Red Dawn as well as the theocratic ruling faction in the government; one of many, across the fleet. Martillet doesn't answer to Alderic, and often has leverage to dictate the mission when he is tapped by the Church to act on the RRM's behalf. This leads to conflict between him and Alderic, which he often wins, to the detriment of the crew. DAC-related missions are deadly, and it is guaranteed that Alderic will lose a tenth of who he sends to Earth every time he is tasked to deploy, a fact that Martillet cares little about.
MARTILLET (DAC REPRESENTATIVE)
FAMILY ON MARS
A multi-hyphenate socialite. Bella is a fixture in Martian popular culture society, and has gained even more of a foothold in Martian culture when she decided to support Alderic's ascent in the military by producing propaganda music and acting in propaganda films paid for the the RRM's entertainment industry. Bella and Alderic have a better relationship than he has with his father. In her younger years as a mother, she had offloaded the responsibility of raising Alderic to an army of tutors and maids, and therefore, her relationship with Alderic - same with her husband's - only improved when he became a teenager and wasn't something that she had to be fussed about. Bella is neglectful as a mother, but is otherwise quite bearable for Alderic to deal with. She sends messages to him regularly, and Alderic is dutiful enough to write back when he can.
BELLA MADELON (MOTHER)
A multi-hyphenate politician and entrepreneur whose primary interest in Earth is the uninterrupted export and refinement of half-metals. Derron is proud enough of his son but is otherwise displeased by his lack of ambition to extend his military victories into the arena of politics and business. Unlike the Tritons, whose business benefits from the meddling of their son Vesper, Alderic has too much respect for his job in order to allow himself to sell secrets to his father. As a result, he does not get along with his son. Derron's marriage to the socialite Bella Madelon is also a political marriage he didn't necessarily agree to, and as a result, neither of them enjoy each other's company and have separated in Alderic's youth, which caused a lot of financial problems for both sides of the family. Derron is happy enough when his son isn't home to cause problems.
DERRON LI (FATHER)
The young heiress of RRM's Finance Minister Ido Rampling. Drussila is a full decade younger than Alderic and she had great aspirations of becoming a mother and a wife, which were dashed the minute she realized Alderic doesn't even have an interest in a family, let alone being married. The marriage has been very difficult for her, though it was a victory for her family. The two children she's had are from surrogates considering Alderic isn't even home enough to sire them himself. Drussila resents her marriage to Alderic. Their conversations are stilted and one-sided, often with Drussila trying to force something genuine out of Alderic and Alderic dismissing her concerns. She wants a divorce but is forbidden by her family from seeking one. Drussila wishes she can have an affair but finds the pursuit of happiness and freedom exhausting as a young mother.
